NEW YORK — The audience attending a performance of “Beautiful”, a narrative of the life of Carole King, had a big surprise when the legendary american singer has appeared in his own role to celebrate the fifth anniversary of the Broadway show.
A sellout crowd at the theatre Stephen Sondheim a standing ovation at the time when Carole King was presented Saturday night to play Beautiful, the final song.
The singer / songwriter, aged 76 years, told the Associated Press in an interview after the show that it was “something of a miracle to see the production continue after five years, because few shows are successful”.
Carole King had already sung on the stage at callbacks for the show over the years, but had never taken part in the story as such.
In the last scene, which takes place at his famous concert at Carnegie Hall in 1971, Carole King has taken over from Chilina Kennedy, who has recently returned to the Broadway production after playing the role of the famous singer in the north american tour.
